Her Excellency Lucie Milebou Aubusson is President of the Gabonese Senate. She is an ophthalmologist with a degree from the Marseilles Faculty of Medicine, and is the first woman to practice as an ophthalmologist in Gabon. She became Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the Jeanne Ebori Foundation and then opened the Medivision medical clinic where she practiced until 2015.
Her political career started in 2002 when she was elected to head the Town Council of the Fougamou municipality. On February 2003, she was elected Senator and held the post of Vice-President of the Gabonese senatorial section of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA ACP-EU). She joined the Gabon Network of Women Ministers and Parliamentarians in the same year.
In 2008, she was elected for a second term as the 6th Vice-President and became President of the Women’s Senators Network of Gabon. In 2014, she began her 3rd term in the Senate and on February 27, 2015, she was elected President of the Senate.
Since December 2015, she has been President of the Gabonese Senate Section, Member of the Bureau and Vice-President for Human Rights at the JPA ACP-EU. She is also Honorary President of the Gabonese Network of Women Senators.
She is a founding member of the Gabon Medical Assistance Association, a founding member of the “Nouveau Partenaire” Youth Cooperative and the founder of the “Guienza” Rural Women’s Cooperative.
